How to Check a Casino Licence Yourself

A licence badge in a website footer is an image. It proves that someone placed an image there. This page shows how to check whether the licence behind it actually exists, without relying on us or anyone else.

The three things you need

1. The licence number, usually in the footer or on a page called Licence, Terms, or About.
2. The licensee company name — often different from the brand name.
3. The regulator's own register, not a page on the casino's site.

If a site shows a badge but no number, that is the answer already.

Registers we match against

We hold 1,351 register entries and match casino claims against them:

When a casino page here says the licence is verified, it means the number or the licensee name matched one of these entries. When it does not say that, we could not make the match — and the licence axis does not count toward the score.

What a match does and does not tell you

A match confirms that the licence exists and belongs to the company named. It is a real check, and it is the one independent thing we can verify for most casinos.

It does not tell you that the operator behaves well, that withdrawals are paid, or that the regulator is strict. Regulators differ enormously in what they require and what they enforce, and a licence from any of them is a floor rather than a guarantee.

Reading a mismatch

A number that does not appear in the register is worth pausing over, but it is not automatically fraud. Common innocent reasons:

• The register lists the parent company, not the brand you searched
• The licence was issued under a regime being replaced, and the register only shows current entries
• The number is transcribed wrongly on the casino's own site

What matters is whether the operator can point you to the entry when asked. A licensed operator can.

Regulators without a usable register

Not every jurisdiction publishes one. Some list companies without licence numbers; some publish nothing verifiable at all; in a few cases the body presented as a regulator has no clear public existence.

When a licence cannot be checked against anything, we treat it as unverified rather than assuming the best or the worst. That is why a casino can display a licence and still show as Unrated here.

A short checklist

• Find the licence number on the operator's site — not on a review site
• Open the regulator's register directly, typing the address yourself
• Search by number first, then by company name
• Check that the entry's status is current, if the register shows status
• If nothing matches, ask support for the register entry and see what comes back
